KuduPay offline

Pay by QR, even when there's no network.

In a market, a taxi or a village with no bars of signal, KuduPay still works. Scan a code, confirm the amount, and the payment settles the moment either phone finds a connection.

How it works

Simple by design.

1

Show or scan the code

The person getting paid displays their KuduPay QR; the payer scans it — no connection needed to start.

2

Confirm the amount

Both sides see and agree the amount on-screen. The payment is signed securely on the device.

3

It settles when online

As soon as either phone reaches a network, Kudu clears the payment and both parties get confirmation.

Why it's better

Built around the outcome.

Built for real coverage

With only 38% internet access across the region — and 23% in rural areas — money can't depend on a perfect signal. KuduPay doesn't.

Cash-like, but safer

No notes to carry, no change to make. Every offline payment is recorded, receipted and reconciled once you're back online.

Fraud-resistant by design

Payments are cryptographically signed on each device, so a QR can't be reused or forged while you were offline.

Frequently asked

Answers to the common questions.

Does KuduPay work with zero internet on both phones?
Yes — as long as one of the two phones reaches a network at some point, the payment settles. Neither phone needs a connection at the moment the QR is scanned and confirmed.
How does an offline payment get recorded and paid out?
The payment is signed cryptographically on-device the moment both sides confirm the amount. As soon as either phone finds a connection, Kudu clears the signed payment and both parties get confirmation — nothing is lost in between.
Can an offline QR code be reused or forged?
No — each QR payment is cryptographically signed on the device that generates it, so it can't be replayed or forged while offline. The signature is what Kudu verifies once the payment reaches a connection.
What happens if my phone loses battery before the payment settles offline?
The signed payment is stored on-device, not just in memory, so it settles as soon as the phone is back on and finds a connection — there's no time limit forcing it to happen immediately.
